Skylight

Skylight is a free spiritual self-care app for young adults (think Gen Z and young Millennials). I had the opportunity to work with a diverse team of creatives, marketers, product developers, and researchers to identify target users, understand user spiritual well-being, and inform new content.

MY ROLE
Behavioral Research Scientist (2023)
Head of Strategic Research (2024)

TIMELINE
Mar 2023 - Dec 2024

PROBLEM

Skylight was looking to integrate scientific strategies to

1) understand their user base

2) increase engagement

3) improve users’ connection to a higher being

PROJECTS

CROSS-SECTIONAL SURVEY

475 users were surveyed to gather insights on their engagement and perceptions of the app. Higher level analysis was done to assess the relationship between app usage with mental health, sleep, and spiritual well-being.

I was the head researcher who conceptualized, created, and executed the survey. I led a team of two other researchers for analysis.

This was the first study of its kind in the self-care mobile app landscape. Results were published in an academic peer-reviewed journal.

QUALITATIVE INTERVIEWS

We interviewed users to dive deeper into their motivations and behaviors. We also explored their spiritual identities.

I conceptualized, created, and executed this study. These results were also published.

MIXED-METHODS CONTENT TESTING

We conducted surveys and gathered recorded video feedback from non-user participants to determine if Skylight increases non-religious young adults’ intent to explore religion.

I led this research end-to-end with cross-functional collaboration with marketing and creative teams.

The most surprising insight for me was that content reliability and inclusivity were far more important than the religiosity of the content for non-religious participants.

IMPACT

New content using research insights for 25K+ users.

65% increase in users within 6 months.

40% increase in engagement time.

Launch of new content series, “Spiritual Pathways.”
